I’m not aware of any specific recent event (which doesn’t mean that there isn’t one) but this process started a few years ago after pornhub was taken to court in the US for distributing coerced content.
GirlsDoPorn had been uploading videos of young women having sex, which some were coerced into doing, and which they hadn’t agreed for the videos to be made public. Pornhub, xhamster, xvideos, and a few other sites began requiring that all people who appear in a sex video submit ID documentation and waivers/agreement for publication. A heap of videos were deactivated “awaiting verification” on these sites.
I assume that people can still upload videos containing an unverified person (probably easier if they’ve previously uploaded videos that have passed verification) and that some automated process is meant to catch them before they’re published. Pornhub is a massive site so it’s possible that some videos slip through which are then later picked up and taken down.
That’s my guess.
