OneManArmy To be fair to my declining country—maybe because it’s the only thing giving me any real hope, even if just a little—the circumcision rates here have been in free fall. There’s been some fluctuation, a bit of push and pull going back further than twenty years, probably. I think the decline has slowed somewhat recently, or maybe the drop isn’t as steep as it was for a while. But still, it’s already much less common, and it seems to be continuing in the direction of fewer people doing it.
That said, it’s hard to get consistent, reliable numbers. I mean, how do you even ask? Ring ring—who’s calling me at this hour? “Sorry to wake you, ma’am or sir, but are you planning to cut off a piece of your child’s genitals?” It’s absurd. That’s the kind of question we’re expected to track with statistics.
