You want to pick 20 out of 200 scenes on each of about 100 tapes but don't want to sit in front of a computer for very long to do that? You need to ask this question on the Magic Board because science can't help you. :-)
Most of the methods do involve connecting your VCR to your computer. You'll need either a TV tuner card or a sophisticated graphics card, plus some software to capture the video and save it to a file.
A better solution for you might be to use a combo player - one that is capable of playing VHS tapes and burning DVDs. That way you could just play a tape, set it to burn to disc, and let it run. If it can transfer files to an external hard drive, you might be able to bypass burning it to a DVD first.
Either way, you're then going to have to sit thru the vid files on either DVD or ext hard drive, and use some basic editing s/w to pick out the stuff you want.
Alternatively, play the scene you want on the tape and burn/record it. Pause/stop recording when the scene ends, Ffwd to the next scene you want, and start recording again. Whatever method you use it is going to take time for you locate the stuff you want, transfer it at normal speed, and then save the files with a meaningful name to your laptop.
