I think we all know that the whole foreskin hygiene thing is a red herring. But on the topic of smell I have noticed one thing.
While smegma, at least for me, takes a week plus to develop and has a relatively mild smell dead sperm can take less than 24 hours to become bad smelling. Also smegma tends to slough off during masturbation while dead sperm requires either heavy frictions with warm water or soapy water to remove, not to mention women produce smegma around their clits and nobody goes on and on about how awful smelling clits are.
What I am wondering is if all this “foreskins smell” crap is originates from men not cleaning their penises after sex/masturbation. Does this sound plausible? I mean sperm does get trapped between the foreskin and glans so it seems at least possible that this is origin of the smegma myth/overreaction.
