I think that sometimes people use the word ‘skin’ because either they’re not sure of the proper term or they’d rather use a more generic word that isn’t obviously associated with “sex stuff”.
However, the effect for me is to diminish the thing that they’re referring to, like how pro-circ people say “it’s just a bit of skin”.
Similarly, I would also have preferred if they had said “his skin” instead of “the skin” as it’s more personal. That’s why Angela White’s talk is so horny - she almost always says “your foreskin” when talking to the guy.
