I’m not american and only been to the states a few times for work or vacation but, I have to agree with what others said. Until about a decade and a bit ago like many other non Americans I actually didn’t know how prominent circumcision was in the states or the history of circumcision in the states was shocked at first but it makes sense now.
Like others said there’s 2 major factors in why circumcision is still done by the majority in the US. It’s declining slowy but that’s because of immigration mostly. The 1st factor is US culture. Lots of american shows and movies over the years have either casually made fun of foreskin or blatantly have. This makes the average American think oh I need to circumcise my son or he’ll be made fun of or not fit in.
The 2nd is that American healthcare is private. Private healthcare is profit based so American doctors and hospitals make money off of elective procedures like circumcision. That’s why it’s so pushed and insurance companies pay for it because of doctors pushing it.
If you look at most other 1st world countries they have private and public healthcare or like canada just public. If you look circumcision rates historically in canada, uk and Australia you see circumcision rates start declining since the 60s.
Why? Because public healthcare stopped funding circumcision outside of medical necessity. Canada stopped funding circumcision in 1996 and you see the domino effect with lower circumcision rates. You want circumcision in canada you pay for it as insurance companies here see circumcision as cosmetic. So people stopped doing circumcision because they didn’t want to pay it and it’s not pushed here by hospitals because they’re public.
Circumcision still happens in Canada but not as much. You look at American states with medicaid I think it’s called? That stopped covering circumcision the rates are lower.
2 things that need to happen in america is healthcare become public like the other 1st world countries or doctors stop pushing it. 2nd is US shows and movies become foreskin positive. I don’t care what others say American jews have a big influence in US media and healthcare so this change will be slow in coming. Just my thoughts on this.
